What to log, and why it helps
Newborns feed 8 to 12 times a day, sleep in short stretches around the clock and produce six or more wet nappies daily once feeding is established. No parent can hold that in their head at 3 a.m., which is why paediatricians ask for a written log in the first weeks. This tracker records feeds (with side or bottle volume), sleep and nappy changes with one tap, so the pattern is there to read back: when the last feed was, how long the last stretch of sleep lasted, and whether today's totals look like yesterday's.
The log lives only in your browser's storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded, no account is created, and clearing the site data deletes it. If you want a copy, use the export option to copy the entries as text into a note or a message to your partner.
Typical patterns by age
| Age | Feeds per 24 h | Total sleep | Longest stretch |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–1 month | 8–12 | 14–17 h | 2–4 h |
| 1–3 months | 7–9 | 14–16 h | 4–6 h |
| 3–6 months | 6–8 | 12–15 h | 6–8 h |
| 6–12 months | 4–6 plus solids | 12–14 h | 8–11 h |
These are broad ranges from paediatric guidance, not targets. Babies vary enormously, and growth spurts temporarily increase feeding. Use the log to spot your own baby's pattern and to answer the questions a nurse or doctor will ask; do not use it to worry about a single unusual day.
When to talk to a professional
The log is most valuable when something seems off. Fewer than six wet nappies a day after the first week, a baby who is very hard to wake for feeds, feeds that consistently last over 45 minutes, or a sudden drop in feeds are all reasons to call your midwife, health visitor or paediatrician, and being able to show the last two days' entries makes that conversation faster. This tool provides no medical advice and is not a substitute for it.
Related tools
For timing a single feed or a bottle-warming interval, the plain timer is quicker. The nap timer is for the adults. To soothe a baby to sleep, many parents use steady sound from the white noise generator, and the sleep timer can switch it off after the baby has settled.
