Enter a pay figure in any period and the calculator shows the equivalent hourly, daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly and annual amounts. The conversion depends on two assumptions you can change: hours per week (default 40) and working weeks per year (default 52). Annual pay divided by 52 weeks and 40 hours gives the hourly rate; a month is taken as one twelfth of a year (4.33 weeks), not four weeks, which is why "monthly × 12" and "weekly × 52" agree here but disagree in a rough mental calculation.

Results are gross figures before tax, social insurance and pension contributions, which vary by country and by individual; net pay is typically 20 to 40 % lower. Use the tool to compare offers on a like-for-like basis, not to plan a budget.

An offer of 4,000 a month on a 40-hour week is about 23 an hour; a freelance rate of 30 an hour sounds higher but usually is not, because freelancers pay both sides of social insurance, get no paid holiday or sick leave, and rarely bill 40 hours in a week. A common rule is that a contractor needs about 1.5 to 2 times the employee hourly rate to end up with the same net income and security. To make the comparison honest, enter the number of hours you realistically expect to bill (often 25–32 a week) rather than 40, and reduce working weeks to account for unpaid holiday.
